Description

Based on the Indian Deity Kali, the Goddess of Love and Revenge, Sandle's 'Queen' speaks of ruthless femininity and violence and cruelty of women. It is one of a number of standing figures, which include St Margaret 1992 and The Woman for Heidelberg 1987, which are made to a similar scale. Sandle's patina for the monumental version of this sculpture is (appropriately) black, whereas the maquette is green.
