Mark Firth | Primary Sections

Description

The forms are miniature sections of an I-beam, a Z-purlin, a T-section and C-section or channel, reflecting the basic forms of steel bar (industrial sections) used in the construction industry. The maquette is a collection of four of many different forms of units that Firth produces in varying numbers - each set being unique. The inner portions of the forms are highly polished; the outer, flat surfaces are etched or patinated to a dark, matt gray. The returning right-angle edges for the forms are machined to a fine line and polished to emphasize the exact form of the sections.
