Terrence Coventry
Avian Form
1999
Description
In this simplified bird form Terence Coventry has achieved the essence of avian qualities. The stance, watchfulness and pent-up nervousness all convey much about how birds are, without telling us the exact species. Coventry is a farmer as well as a sculptor, which gives him time to observe from his tractor much about the nature and habits of his chosen subject. He translates these observations directly into three-dimensional form rather than though the intermediary of a sketchbook or drawings.
