Description

This is a seashell, it is mechanistic in form and it alludes to the spiral cavity of the inner ear - Cochlea. The first of the edition in the Archive of Sculpture at Goodwood was patinated green. Unlike the maquette, the opening of the shell-like form is horizontal in the monumental version. Allington frequently uses shells and decorative cornucopia in his work, and this is a fine example.
