Description

Water moving in a thin veil with incredible speed over polished stainless steel comes between us and our reflection and the reflection of the landscape, serving only to increase the magical quality of prism. Contrary to the lansdcape, the pristine reflective nature of the metal absorbs the atmosphere, and when viewed in sunny conditions the sculpture appears to be lit from within by pools of reflected light.

William Pye has consummate mastery over water and metal, and combines them in ways observed in nature. He saw water running over the surface of a mountain road, forming the sort of lace-like patterns that skim over the metal surface of Miss Prism. The sculpture has three vertical surfaces, each reflecting the woodland and the visitors who decide to come close. The sculpture has a bold presence because of its material quality which, ironically, in some lights serves as a disguise.

Not only is a prism a vertical rectilinear form, it also becomes a trasparent body in this sculpture. In certain lights it appears to be a transparent wall of water forever falling and refracting light. The sound of falling water out of doors refreshes not only the eye, but the mind and the soul.
