As part of the Cass Sculpture Foundation's portfolio of external events, its founder, Wilfred Cass has been asked to curate the Ironstone exhibition, featuring cast-iron sculpture from artists specialising in iron.
Conceived in association with Sculpture Cymru, an organisation of 30 sculptors living and working in Wales, Ironstone has been designed with the aim of promoting contemporary sculpture, a vision shared by the Cass Sculpture Foundation.
The selected sculptures will be displayed throughout the grounds of Kidwelly Castle, juxtaposing ancient monuments and sculpture to reflect human creativity throughout the ages as well as the monumental heritage of Kidwelly Castle and South Wales' rich history of metalwork. The relationship between the works and the historic location, Wilfred's own personal responses to the pieces and the creative use of iron as a medium have been the main considerations in siting works for this exhibition.
Ironstone at Kidwelly Castle runs from the 8th July until the 13th September 2010 and features works by Wendy Earle, Susan Forsyth, Andy Griffiths, Charles Hadcock, Harvey Hood, Coral Penelope Lambert, Nick Lloyd, Marcus Vergette, Wally Gilbert, Antonia Spowers, Geraint Edwards, Kate Hobby, Kazys Venclovas and Jenny K. Hager.
