Open Book and Island by Diane Maclean

Two new works by Diane Maclean have recently been installed on the grounds of the Cass Sculpture Foundation. The sculptures - Open Book and Island have been created in Maclean's signature style, using treated metals to create works inspired by Maclean's rich cultural heritage and the natural world.

Both pieces relate to Maclean's Scottish heritage. Island is the result of a voyage of discovery around the Hebridean islands where Maclean was struck by the relationship between the sea, the cliffs and the unique Scottish sunlight. Open Book is an homage to an ancestor of Maclean's husband, a Gaelic scholar, who strove to preserve the Gaelic language by compiling an extensive library of Gaelic literature.

Earlier works by Diane Maclean, Encampment and Spine have been displayed on the grounds of the Cass Sculpture Foundation, these pieces were subsequently sold or loaned as part of our successful commissioning, lending and selling programme.

Maclean was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1998 and is a Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists.
