Phillip King: Sculpture in the Workplace

25 March 2009

Phillip King Spring-a-Ling, 1983

From the 30th of March to the 29th of May, 2009, one of the Foundation's most celebrated sculptors, Phillip King, will be displaying monumental sculpture in two locations in Canary Wharf, London: Jubilee Park and the lobby of One Canada Square. The exhibition is part of the Canary Wharf Group's 'Sculpture in the Workplace' initiative which seeks to provide a quality built environment for people who live, work and visit Canary Wharf.

Sculpture Curator, Ann Elliott, will be delivering a talk on the exhibition on April the 28th at 1.15pm in the lobby of One Canada Square. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance by ringing the Canary Wharf Public Art office on: 0207 418 2257.

Bold, colourful and abstract works characterise Phillip King's internationally acclaimed sculptural oeuvre. Two of King's most recent works in this vein, Sun's Roots II (2008) and Sun and Moon (2007), can be seen on the grounds of the Cass Sculpture Foundation and are available for sale and on loan.

King has received a number of notable appointments for his contributions to sculpture, including a CBE (1974) and Presidency of the Royal Academy of Art (1999). He represented Britain at the XXXIV Venice Biennale in 1968, and in 1998 was the first British artist since Henry Moore to be honoured with an exhibition at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence.
