'these are the Henry Moores of the future'

Helaine Blumenfeld's Spirit of Life at Goodwood

One of the Foundation's most celebrated artists, Helaine Blumenfeld, currently has new works on show and for sale at Robert Bowman Modern, London.

These works mark a conscious move away from Blumenfeld's preoccupation with marble carving and, instead, identify her ability to work in clay to produce models for casting in bronze - hence the show's title, 'Letting Go.' The diversity of her artistic practice was recognised by Simon de Burton of the Financial Times in his recent article which states that 'few sculptors are comfortable with both carving and modelling, but this exhibition proves that Blumenfeld is a master of both.'

During the 1960s Blumenfeld trained under the esteemed Russian artist Osip Zadkin and attracted international recognition almost immediately. Since the 60s Blumenfeld has divided her time between her two studios in Cambridge and Pietrasanta and has continued to produce works of the highest quality. This has resulted in her vice-presidency of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and the inclusion of her work within significant public and private collections around the world, including the Tate, Courtauld and Smithsonian.

Even at the very beginning of her career, Blumenfeld's work has been exhibited alongside mainstays of modern sculpture, including Henry Moore and Constantin Brancusi. As de Burton goes on to exclaim, 'buy now - these are the Henry Moores of the future.'
