In an entirely new and original venture, all of the Cass Sculpture Foundation's works are now available on loan. This innovative new initiative affords individuals, local authorities and developers the opportunity to temporarily display acclaimed sculpture from the best emerging and established sculptors, including artists such as Tim Morgan, Tony Cragg, Steven Gregory, Eilís O'Connell, Thomas Ostenberg, Bill Woodrow, Anthony Caro and Phillip King.
As an unrivalled enterprise, the loan scheme - in a first for the art world - gives lessees the freedom and flexibility from the huge commitment of commissioning monumental sculpture or buying it outright. Predicated on a loan agreement between the Foundation and the lessee, loans are charged on a monthly basis at a percentage of the sales cost of the piece. Given the vast range and quantity of works to be found on the grounds of the Cass Sculpture Foundation, monthly loan costs range from £280 to £17,000.
From October 2008 to January 2009, Eilís O'Connell's Wingblade, from her upcoming Biomorphia1-8 show at the Foundation, will go to the Wapping Project in London as part of the project's current exhibition entitled, Turning the Season. This is the latest in a number of successful loans initiated by the Foundation. To date the Cass Sculpture Foundation has loaned many and various works to: Wembley stadium, London; BMW headquarters, Munich; the Grosvenor estate, London, and Goodwood racecourse, West Sussex. The Foundation's expertise in the transportation, installation and health & safety issues involved in the display of public sculpture are just some of the major benefits offered to lessees.
O'Connell's eight Biomorphia1-8 pieces, and 40-50 additional monumental works - all of which are available on loan - comprise the Foundation's pioneering London 2010 - 2012 commissioning programme. The Foundation has forged unique partnerships with the representatives of key sites across the capital, including Wembley Stadium and King's Cross, to ensure that celebrated monumental sculpture will be displayed in London over the coming years. As a result of many organisations' financial constraints, compounded by the current economic climate, this loan scheme will - due to its ease and flexibility - facilitate the display of celebrated sculpture in London's public spaces.
