The Cass Sculpture Foundation is delighted to announce that it is now offering voluntary internships to undergraduate/graduate students at the beginning of their careers. An internship at the Cass Sculpture Foundation is a wonderful opportunity to increase your knowledge of contemporary British sculpture, whilst working within a professional and dynamic environment in a beautiful woodland setting.
Interns work alongside all members of staff and assist with managerial, technical, curatorial and administrative tasks including, amongst other things: research into British and international sculpture and sculptors and the art market; PR and marketing; assisting with the administration for new commissions/acquisitions; cataloging works on the grounds and in our extensive archive; working in the Foundations 26 acre grounds and the Visitors' Centre.
The scheme is an exciting opportunity for students with, or studying towards, a bachelor's/master's degree in fine art, art history, museum studies or a subject in a related field. The Foundation welcomes self starters with excellent communication skills who have the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
An internship with us is an invaluable experience for any current students or recent graduates wishing to pursue a career within the arts. The Foundation's most recent intern, a second year art history and film studies undergraduate at the University of East Anglia, comments upon his time at the Foundation:
"That's the beauty of an open-plan office, everybody knows what's going on." Wilfred Cass' remark sums up one of the many strengths of the Cass Sculpture Foundation's internship scheme. Its small, close-knit team ensured I was privy to constant discussion regarding the day-to-day workings of the Foundation. Initial eavesdropping in on phone calls and meetings soon led to my active participation in decision making thanks to the opportunity to voice my opinions. Having been given a sizable and well-prepared (and constantly evolving) to-do list, I was given responsibility and performed a variety of roles, from gallery assistant to researcher, which included communicating with galleries and writing for the website. With resources, such as the Foundation Centre's library and archive at my disposal, I have gained a wide-ranging knowledge of contemporary sculpture, an invaluable insight into the workings of the arts sector and have had a thoroughly enjoyable experience into the bargain.
