Come and learn about the intricacies of terrarium eco-systems while creating your own miniature garden to take away and nurture.
14:00 - 16:00
Join London Terrariums for an afternoon making your own Tiny John Terrarium at the beautiful Cass Sculpture Foundation. You will learn how a terrarium works; how these self-contained ecosystems survive so well on their own and how to look after them. We will start with a short introduction explaining the history and science that goes into building a terrarium, from the different plants you can use to why activated charcoal has become an essential for us. Then it is up to you to get your hands in there and build your own! By the end of the session you will have your own exciting miniature garden to take away and watch develop over the coming months and years.
Tickets must be purchased in advance, please book your place here.
Included in ticket price: A Tinyjohn Vessel & cork, a variety of Plants, Tools, Compost, Moss and Activated Charcoal. A London Terrariums bag and care guide for taking your creation home. Entrance to Cass Sculpture Foundation on the day of the event, tea, coffee and biscuits.
To bring with you on the day: An apron is useful if you would like to protect your clothes but there is no need to bring anything specific with you.
About the workshop leader: London Terrariums began out of a sincere desire to engage with nature in the urban environment. We made our first terrarium using what we could source from our immediate surroundings; stones from our driveways, moss from the garage roof, cuttings from our house plants and hand-made tools from wine corks and garden sticks.
After making them for friends and family we received our first commission and London Terrariums was born. We are dedicated to passing on what we learn through our comprehensive workshops and believe that the terrarium is the perfect way to engage with horticulture in a dense urban environment.
In July 2017 we opened our first shop in New Cross, South East London and continue to provide workshops in and around London and the South East.
Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled. Tickets must be booked via our website. Booking will close at 5pm the day before the event is due to take place.
