Vong Phaophanit

Vong Phaophanit was born in 1961 in Laos (since 1975 People's Democratic Republic of Laos). He was educated in France (1972-80), and studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Aix-en-provence (1980-85). Being separated from his family, who remained in Laos from 1973 to 1993, when they were able to visit him in England, possibly led Vong Phaophanit to include photographs of them in some of his earlier work.
