Steve Geliot was born in 1967 and went on to train in 3D design at Brighton College of Art and Design before going on to obtain an MA in The History and Theory of Modern Art, with distinction, at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 1991. Geliot works in the field of sculpture and public art, frequently working to site specific commissions intended for display in architectural and landscape contexts and/or unspoiled natural environments. Such commissions include: 'Eternal Parents' for Saltmill Park, Saltash, Cornwall; 'Under Ice' and 'Thread of Life,' Scott Hospital, Plymouth; 'Pollen Grain,' Falmer, University of Brighton; 'Bollard,' for the Fiona Atkinson Civic Trust Award, Brighton Seafront and 'Voices of the Brook,' Wantage housing development.
In addition to working alone, Geliot frequently works in collaboration with architects and landscape architects, as well as with other artists.
Geliot is currently Arts Coordinator at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust. In 2007 he was instrumental in establishing projects inside and outside the children's hospital and continues to raise awareness of the benefits of art in a healing environment.
Geliot's work frequently draws inspiration from minutiae. As such, much of his work comprises pieces developed from electron micrographs which are then 'scaled-up' to create three dimensional works.
