Alison Wilding

Wilding was born in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1948. She studied at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design from 1967-70 and subsequently studied sculpture at the Royal College of Art from 1970-73. Dualities often lie at the heart of Wilding's sculptures. She uses the innate qualities of the rawest of raw materials to produce sculptures that contrast transparency and opacity, light and shadow and weight and immateriality. The result is often sculptures with a profound sensuous presence that are self-referential and self-sufficient.
