Abigail Fallis studied silversmithing and metalwork at Camberwell College of Arts, and her first solo show was in 1999 at the North Devon Museum. Since then she has shown consistently and has been featured on Channel 4's Big Breakfast show and the BBC2 program New Brit in which her sculpture Cock Eye'd Jack - a pair of framed union jack pants, was both humorous and a sardonic comment on the blatant spin doctoring of Cool Britannia. These 'pant' sculptures were displayed in a number of other prominent London locations, including the Groucho Club, the Colony Room and the Westbourne Hotel.
Since then her career has rocketed and she has shown in many exhibitions across Britain. In 2001 she had a solo show of metal sculptures in Broomhill Sculpture Park and a sculpture in Hoxton Square as part of the Clerkenwell literary festival. Her work was displayed as part of a summer display in the grounds of Kells Priory, Kilkenny and as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations exhibition. A recent solo exhibition, entitled EAT ME was in St Paul's Church Gallery, St Stephens Road, London.
In 2002/03 Fallis exhibited a collection of works in silver, returning to her silversmithing roots, in both Gloucester and subsequently the Royal Academy. Her work is generally concerned with consumerism and public image - how people sell things. She experiments widely and uses a wide range of materials, from papier-mâché to shopping trolleys, via silver, steel and cloth. Her early training has left her with an equally wide grounding of skills to use and it is testament to this knowledge of craftsmanship that she is currently a member of the Crafts Council.
